The disciples gathered on a mountain in Galilee, just as Jesus had directed them before His death and resurrection. They came tired and uncertain, their hearts weary from loss and confusion, yet still holding onto hope. They were people whose strength was low, whose thoughts were unsettled, yet their hearts remained open, waiting for God to move.

Today we are turning to the last prophetic book of the Old Testament, the book of Malachi. God spoke these words to His people after they had come back from exile. The temple was rebuilt. Sacrifices had resumed. Outwardly, religion was in place. But inwardly, hearts were cold, worship was careless, and obedience was selective. God’s people were going through the motions.
